What’s Happening at Other Chapters

The Inland Northwest Woodturners are meeting January 3rd at the Woodcraft in Spokane Valley. Ron Gooley will do a review and demo of blank mounting techniques from jam chucks to 4 jaw chucks.

The Northwest Woodturners in Beaverton, Oregon are meeting on January 3rd. This will be the Annual Tool Sale & Swap. BTW, the club has updated its newsletter and it is really good. I recommend that you go check it out.

The Woodturners of Olympia are meeting next on January 8th at the First Baptist Church of Olympia. This month John Hampton will talk about the different types of hollow forms, mounting them to the lathe, and the tools used to make them.

The Southwest Idaho Woodturners in Boise, ID will be meeting on January 8th. The program for the evening has not been announced.

The Willamette Valley Woodturners in Salem, Oregon will be meeting on January 10th at the Salem Center +50. Jay Shepard will demonstrate from blank to a high gloss lacquered form in 90 Minutes.

The Seattle Woodturners are meeting on January 10th. Chapter President Jim Kief will be discussing/demonstrating finishes for turned items. In conjunction with this, members are asked to bring in examples of finishes they like to use (as well as finishes they DON’T like) for part of the Show and Tell.

The Fraser Valley Woodturners Guild in Abbotsford, B.C., is meeting on January 10th. Allan Cusworth will demonstrate how to turn an eccentric bowl.

The Mid-Columbia Woodturners are meeting on January 12th at the Hanger in Pasco. Casey Picha will cover the basics of resin casting as well as turning resin. He will be using a two-part resin called Alumilite.

The Northwest Washington Woodturners in Mt. Vernon are meeting on January 17th. Terry Gerros who, among other things, has served as the Chairman of the Oregon Woodturning Symposium, will be demonstrating adding a twist (often referred to as a spiral) to spindle work.

The Cascade Woodturners in Portland, OR are meeting on January 17th. Sara “Seri” Robinson from Oregon State University’s Department of Wood Science & Engineering will cover mounting spalted wood workpieces, tools, and techniques. Seri is one of the authors Spalted Wood – The History, Science and Art of a Unique Material.

The Greater Vancouver Woodturners Guild in Vancouver, B.C. are meeting on January 24th. The program for the evening has not been announced.

The Island Woodturners Guild on Vancouver Island are meeting on January 26th at the Central Saanich Seniors Citizen Centre in Brentwood Bay, B.C. The program for the afternoon has not been announced.

The Strait Turners in Sequim are meeting on January 29th. This meeting will feature a wood auction.

The Olympic Peninsula Woodturners holding will be meeting on January 30th at the Seventh Day Adventist School. This meeting is with the new officers of the Board of Directors.
