The AAW will use an enhanced virtual event software platform to offer multiple concurrent live demonstration tracks, panel discussions, special interest topics, a trade show, Instant Gallery, live and silent auctions, drawings, and more. You’ll have opportunities to engage with other attendees face-to-face, plan your sessions, or skip around – you decide. The only thing missing will be the handshakes and hugs from old and new woodturning friends!

The cost of admission is $45 for AAW members and $60 for all others. Even if you’re not able to participate in the complete two-day online experience, registered attendees will have access to recorded replays of featured demonstrations and panel discussions. AAW Announces Virtual Woodturning Event July 10-12

(St. Paul – June 4) – The American Association of Woodturners (AAW), a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the art and craft of woodturning worldwide, will launch its first-ever three-day online “Virtual Symposium” July 10-12, 2020.

The all-online event will feature live educational woodturning demonstrations, special interest sessions, panel discussions, live auctions, Instant Gallery, prizes drawings for attendees, a virtual trade show, and more.

• Demonstrators for the event will include woodturning pros Trent Bosch, Cindy Drozda, Rudy Lopez, Glenn Lucas, Mike Mahoney, and Craig Timmerman. Topics will be announced.
• Panel discussions will include social media/business, artistic practice, and an Instant Gallery critique.
• Special Interest Sessions will include Gizmos and Gadgets, a presentation of “best of the best” woodturning tips, and a Women in Turning (WIT) presentation.
• Each registered attendee may send an image to include in the Virtual Instant Gallery.
• The cost for all three days of programming is $20.20 (nonrefundable), which includes access to a replay of recorded Virtual Symposium content for up to two weeks following the event.

Seven AAW chapters in Florida come together to present the Florida Woodturning Symposium from February 7th to 9th, 2020 at the Lake Yale Baptist Conference Center. Nationally known demonstrators include Nick Agar, J. Paul Fennell, Judy Ditmer and Keith Gotschall. There will also be hands-on workshops led by Dixie Biggs, Rudy Lopez and others. The symposium features a large trade show, auction and raffle.

The Alaska Woodturners Association is presenting their 2020 Woodturning Symposium on April 4th and 5th, 2020 at Glass, Sash & Door Supply in Anchorage. Featured turners are Sam Angelo and Stuart Batty along with local turners Jeff Trotter and Dave Staeheli. In addition, Sam and Stuart will be conducting two to three day hands-on classes following the symposium. The symposium will also feature an instant gallery.

The exhibition is open to any AAW member and full-time students in art, design, or industry-related programs regardless of membership status. All types of turnings are welcome. The entry fee is $25 for up to three items. Applications are due by March 15, 2020 and artists will be notified by Marcy 31, 2020.

The Executive Board for the Utah Woodturning Symposium has determined to discontinue the symposium. Although this was not an easy decision, a variety of factors have combined which make us question the continued financial viability of the symposium while still maintaining the level of quality we strive for and have enjoyed in past years.

We express sincere appreciation to the hundreds of volunteers who have helped make the Utah Woodturning Symposium a success over the past four decades. We also thank the many world-class presenters who openly shared their hard-earned expertise. Most of all, we thank the thousands of participants who supported the symposium by their attendance, many who returned year after year creating a family-reunion type atmosphere. We have made wonderful life-long friendships and have fond memories to last long into the future.

As you may know, the Utah Woodturning Symposium was initiated in 1978 by Dale Nish and became a groundbreaking model for many other woodturning symposiums. It continued for 39 years making it the longest running woodturning symposium in the world.

It has been a great run and we feel honored to have been part of it. Thank you again for your past support.

So here is our SPSW sawdust session on steroids! Representatives from Dallas Area Woodturners, East Texas Woodturners, Golden Triangle Woodturners, Hunt County Woodturners, and Wood Turners of North Texas are working together to form the Trinity River Woodturners event which will host a multi-day seminar involving hands-on classes and demonstrations. The October event is to be hosted at the North Lake College West Campus and should be an exciting and educational event. Currently they will have Stations One thru Eight active thru out the day each day. Each station has four lathes for the attendees to turn the item presented for that session. Each session is a full two hours, 4 sessions each day, both days (eight in all).

In addition to the on-lathe classes they will have off-lathe classes to offer. Pen segmenting Introduction, instruction for the Rose Engine, carving and pyrography, finishes, piercing, airbrush 101, photography and more. There are also several vendors that will be at the event.

AAW Symposium

The 33rd annual AAW International Symposium is being held in Raleigh, North Carolina July 11-14 at the Raleigh Convention Center. Featuring world-class turners, huge trade show, an instant gallery, two exhibitions (Continuum, Themed Member Exhibition and Traces, the POP Exhibition), live benefit auction, live POP benefit auction, AAW silent benefit auction and a youth program this is the premiere woodturning event.

Southwest Association of Woodturners

SWAT Symposium 2019 is schedule for August 23 – 25 in Waco Convention Center in Waco, Texas. Demonstrators include Andy Chen, Carl Jacobson, Donna Zils Banfield, Eli Avasera, Kurt Hertzog, Malcolm Tibbetts and Sam Angelo. There are also seventeen regional demonstrators also on tap.

Rocky Mountain Woodturning Symposium

The 21st annual Rocky Mountain Woodturners Symposium is being held at The Ranch / Larimer County Fair Grounds in Loveland, Colorado on September 13th – 15th. Demonstrators include John Beaver, Stuart Batty, Anthony Harris, Derek Weidman, Michael Alguire, Tod Raines, Michael Andersen, Vince Wilson, and Bob Franklin. There will be a vendor exhibit, instant gallery, banquet and live auction.

Woodturners of Olympia

The 2019 Woodturners of Olympia will be held September 21st at the Thurston County Fairgrounds. Featured demonstrators are Graeme Priddle, Melissa Engler and Dan Tilden.

Turning Southern Style

The 2019 edition of Turning Southern Style, presented by the Georgia Association of Woodturners, will be held September 20 – 22 in Dalton, Georgia. Demonstrators include Nick Agar, Graeme Priddle & Melissa Engler, Mark Palma, Peggy Schmid, Frank Bowers and Mike Peace. There will also be a trade show, auction, banquet and special interest night.

Mid Atlantic Woodturners Symposium

This is the 4th annual Mid Atlantic Woodturners Association Symposium to be held October 4th – 6th at The Lancaster Marriott / Convention Center at Penn Square in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. This year’s demonstrators include Mike Hosaluk, Trent Bosch, Dixie Biggs, Nick Cook, Graeme Pridle, Melissa Engler and Mark Sfirri.

Ohio Valley Woodturners Guild Symposium

Turning 2019 is being held October 18th – 20th at the Higher Ground Conference Center in West Harrison, Indiana. Demonstrators include Stuart Batty, Trent Bosch, Mark Sfirri, Al Stirt, Kimberly Winkle and Chris Ramsey. There are also 16 guest demonstrators on the schedule. There will also be a vendor show, instant gallery, banquet and auction.
